The holiday music format played by Clear Channel station WRIT-FM (95.7) doubled the oldies stations ratings during the holiday survey period between Dec. 3 and Dec. 31.
WRIT earned a 12.2 share and was the number one ranked station in the market. In the December ratings survey, ended Dec. 3, the station had a 6.1 rating and was ranked third.
It traded places with country music station WMIL-FM (106.1), which lost 1.4 of a rating point and dropped from first to third place. And talk sports and information station WTMJ-AM (620) held onto second placed with a 9.8 share, a .1 of a drop from last month.
The all Christmas music format on WZTI-AM (1290) also doubled its ratings, although more modestly, from a .6, to a 1.3. The station, and its FM translator, switched to Christmas music Nov. 1.
The station has since switched to a “rhythmic oldies” format.
Fourth ranked WKKV-FM earned a 5.2, up from a 4.7. It was sixth ranked in the last survey. And WMYX-FM earned a 5.0 share, dropping .1 of a share and from fourth place to fifth.
These ratings represent a percentage of those listening to radio who are listening to a station in an average-quarter hour. They measure listening by total audience, 6 years and older.
The ratings only measures stations that subscribe to the service. Once again Saga stations were not measured, since they did not become subscribers to the A.C. Nielsen ratings servicce until January of this year.
Ratings results for Saga stations here – WKLH-FM (96.5), WHQG-FM (102.9), WJMR-FM (98.3) , WRNG-FM (106.9) and WJYI-AM (1340) – have not been reported for the past six or seven years because Saga did not subscribe to the Nielsen, formerly Arbitron, service.
In early January it was announced Nielsen and Saga reached agreement in a copyright infringement case against the broadcast chain alleging “widespread, open and notorious” use of ratings data.
The settlement means that Saga stations will begin to appear in future ratings data.
Had they been included in the previous survey; WKLH, would rank fourth, with a 5.5 share; WHQG, would rank 10th, with a 4.3; WJMR, 13th with a 3.3; and WNRG, 16th with a 2.2
Below are ratings for the remaining stations.
